When you are considering buying real estate there are several things to consider and you do not want to make the decision lightly. There are many different types of real estate out there and that is important because not every family fits in one type of home.
When most people think about buying property, they are thinking about buying a stand-alone, single family house. A single family, wood frame house is really the picture of the American dream in the sense that a family will have their own space and the space will usually include a yard. However, there are things to consider. If you are looking at buying a home chances are there will be maintenance and yard work involved, if you are not handy or interested in doing the work, you might want to look into a condo or townhome instead.
Condos and townhomes are a great purchase because while you can change the look of the inside of the home but you are usually not responsible for maintaining the outside of the home. Townhomes and condos will usually be cheaper than a single family home as well and may offer more square footage for less money. However, when you are living in a townhome or condo you will be sharing walls with neighbors so be prepared to not always live in the quietest of places. It will also be unlikely that you will have an outdoor space. Neighborhoods with stand alone homes are usually where families tend to live so if you have children you might consider a house rather than a condo or townhome.
